artistic inspiration.

This painting, from around 2000, was my first attempt to use a sheet of 300 lb. Fabriano Esportazione watercolor paper. For me this has the most appealing surface of any watercolor paper. It was not a successful painting, but I kept it because I was interested in the uneven way the paper took the pigment. The speckle pattern in the color is apparently caused by some inconsistency in the sizing. I was not stretching my papers at the time, and this very absorbent paper buckled a great deal despite its weight, making it unsuitable for my technique.
